WDP develops a 70,000 m2 pharma distribution center in Veghel
WDP is developing a new XXL Pharma Logistics Distribution Center for Alloga, part of Alliance Healthcare Netherlands. Alloga is the market leader in Europe in the field of specialist services in supply chain solutions for healthcare.
WDP announced the new development of approximately 65 million euros at the presentation of the annual figures.
CEO Joost Uwents called pharmacy one of the important growth sectors for his company. “Pharmaceutical companies are getting ready to serve customers even better in the future through investments in their logistics. This project is an excellent example of this.”
JUST IN CASE
In any case, the WDP CEO believes that “based on the experiences during the corona crisis” Europe should consider whether we still want to be so heavily dependent on supplies from outside Europe. ‘I foresee that in general more stock will have to be held or that we will have to produce more ourselves. Just think about the hassle surrounding the availability of masks and respirators. We will have to move from just-in-time to just-in-case in logistics.”
HIGH DEMANDS
The new project will be located on the Foodpark business park in Veghel and will meet the high requirements for pharmaceutical buildings. The XXL Pharma Logistics location is being set up for GDP storage 9 with cold stores and freezer cells. In addition, the site is being realized in accordance with a TAPA-A 10 security certificate.
The location, with a total surface area of over 70,000 m2 of distribution space and offices and parking, has been leased for ten years to Alloga and Alliance Healthcare. The companies will house their new distribution center and headquarters here respectively. Completion is scheduled for the second quarter of 2023.
DURABILITY
The project will be able to count on a Breeam “very good” certificate. The new building will be built in accordance with BENG11 and will be equipped with a gasless ‘all-electric’ climate installation, solar panels, triple high-efficiency glazing, controlled LED lighting and an energy monitoring system. Employees can use three covered bicycle sheds with charging points and more than 70 charging points for electric vehicles. Water management and biodiversity are also a point of attention in the realization of this location: a native herb garden with water features and nesting boxes is to promote integration with the existing ecosystem.
