The cities Eindhoven and Taipei have collaborated intensely for years, and now both cities are going to further intensify their collaboration in the field of developing smart city solutions for improving safety and healthcare. Both cities have an aging population and must deal with similar challenges when it comes to safety and healthcare such as an increase of chronical diseases and an increase in healthcare costs. Besides this, both cities strongly rely on export.

During a visit of a Dutch delegation to Computex/InnoVEX (5-9 June), one of world’s largest tech and IT tradeshows, the mayors of Eindhoven and Taipei signed a Memorandum of Understanding to underline their ambition to cooperate.

A direct result of the MoU is that companies from both countries can demonstrate their solutions in test settings, the so-called inner-city proof of concepts. Living labs in which companies can demonstrate and test their products and services can help them market their products and services.

This agreement is the result of several missions to and from Taipei. Expectations are that this project will be expanded the next couple of years to enable a larger amount of companies to show their solutions in Taipei, and in Eindhoven.
