Eindhoven world player in tech sector
Yesterday, Savills launched its ‘Tech Cities 2021’ research program in which shifts among worldwide tech cities are happening due to the increasing attention to well-being in society. The Savills Tech Cities research program has been ranking the best cities for office users and tech-industry talent since 2015, and Eindhoven is in the top of the category "Rising Global Contender Tech Cities".
Rising Global Contender Tech Cities
Savills identifies a number of “Rising Global Contender Tech Cities”. These are fast-growing tech cities to keep an eye on, such as Eindhoven. These cities are making great strides in attracting VC investment. In addition, they score relatively well in terms of living costs and lifestyle compared to the more established tech cities.
Features of these cities are:
- Smaller but growing cities;
- Tech industry has grown strongly and/or has good access to a larger tech hub;
- High growth in risky capital investments;
- Good regional (and international) connectivity;
- Higher education available;
- Rising in-migration;
- Vibrant city, night life and culture;
- Usually has a good balance between sustainable living in the city and access to activities outside the city;
- Lower costs than Tech Lifestyle and Tech Megacities.
European patent paradise
In addition, a research done by the European Patent Office that was published yesterday as well shows that the region of Eindhoven is the main 4IR cluster in Europe. This region includes the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany. This cluster is organized around Philips and Signify (formerly Philips Lighting), which together have generated up to 72% of its IPFs since 2010. Like Philips, the cluster shows a strong specialization in 3D systems and smart healthcare. Globally, the Eindhoven region ranks 15th.
