Axelera AI was incubated by Bitfury Group in 2019, formerly operating as Bitfury AI until the company came out as an independent entity this year. Building on its research and development focused on integrating hardware and software technologies for edge and cloud-to-edge enterprise solutions, Axelera AI has also joined forces with IMEC since early 2020 to develop computing architecture for high-performance AI. Last month, the company announced the close of their $12 million seed investment round.

Fabrizio Del Maffeo, CEO and Co-Founder of Axelera AI, says: “The Netherlands is an excellent place for a company with international ambitions. Almost everyone speaks English and the 30% tax ruling for skilled employees – who represent 95% of our resources – allow to attract talent from all around the world. We selected the region of Brabant because of its strong deeptech ecosystem. Worldwide leaders such NXP, ASML, IMEC have operations or headquarters here, as well as international companies such as Intel, Synopsys, IBM and more. Brabant is also close to North Rhine – Westphalia, Bremen and Belgium, all areas of high interest and full of talent.”

The Brabant Development Agency (BOM) helped connecting the company to several parties in the local ecosystem.
