The American company Michael Lewis Company (MLCo), the worldwide distributor of aircraft meals and aviation supplies, has begun construction on its new European headquarters and distribution center at the Nieuw-Prinsenland business park in Dinteloord, Steenbergen. With this, MLCo is investing around 35 million for further expansion of its business activities in Europe. MLCo will start early 2020 with around 30 employees, to grow to around 100 employees in the next 3 years.

Strategic location

“After a long and thorough investigation in collaboration with REWIN, this location was very deliberately chosen,” says Rien den Hartog, director of Michael Lewis Company Europe B.V. “The distribution center is strategically located on the A4, between the international ports of Rotterdam and Antwerp, connected by the Scheldt-Rhine Canal. From this unique location, MLCo Europe offers a multi-temperature distribution network in a professional manner throughout Europe and beyond. ”MLCo currently serves 119 international airports in 23 countries in Europe.

Nieuw-Prinsenland business park offers excellent location options and is the right place for this renowned supply chain specialist. Moreover, the business activity fits perfectly within the economic spearheads of our region, in which technology, food and logistics play a prominent role. We are very happy to welcome them to Steenbergen.

Storage capacity

In the first term, the distribution center has a floor space of almost 14,000 m2 with a storage volume of more than 165,000 m3. Den Hartog explains this: “The distribution center is built for the future. As soon as the business activities further develop, we are able to expand the building by 40%. The collaboration with the municipality of Steenbergen, who took great care of the permit process with us, gives us great confidence in the future.”

The ultramodern distribution center consists of various conditioned rooms, such as freezer rooms, cold rooms and storage for unconditioned goods, all of which are equipped with the latest technological innovations. The complex, which includes a high-quality office building, will form an important link in the Global Supply Chain that MLCo offers its customers in the aviation industry. Naturally, the entire complex meets the latest environmental requirements and sustainability criteria. The “Recognized supplier of aviation equipment” will have the necessary customs permits to fully meet the delivery requirements of the recipients at European international airports.

Support

REWIN has assisted Michael Lewis Company at their site. “The first exploratory talks took place in September 2016,” says Guido van Liefland, Head of ‘Establishing’. “The location selection process was then thoroughly carried out. Various location options were reviewed, but the Agro & Food Cluster Nieuw-Prinsenland turned out to be the right location. But our work is not yet complete. We still support Michael Lewis Company, for example in the recruitment of personnel. As usual with investments of foreign origin, we have collaborated on this project with our partners the Brabant Development Agency (BOM) and the Netherlands Foreign Investment Agency (NFIA).”
